{"id":69,"date":"2025-07-21T20:19:18","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T20:19:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.joel2army.com\/?page_id=69"},"modified":"2025-07-21T20:19:18","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T20:19:18","slug":"evangelists-pastors-and-teachers","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.joel2army.com\/index.php\/evangelists-pastors-and-teachers\/","title":{"rendered":"Evangelists, Pastors, and Teachers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>11\u00a0And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some,\u00a0<strong>evangelists;<\/strong>\u00a0and some,\u00a0<strong>pastors\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>teachers<\/strong>;<\/em> &#8212; Ephesians 4:11\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Evangelist<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>5\u00a0But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry<\/em><strong>&#8212; 2 Timothy 4:5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200bThe office of the evangelist is least discussed ministry in the bible. There is only one person called an evangelist in the bible Philip (Acts 21:8). The apostle Paul did not call Timothy an evangelist, but he did instruct him to do the work of an evangelist. The main work of an evangelist is to make new converts and work signs and wonders.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b5\u00a0Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. 6\u00a0And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. 7\u00a0For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. 8\u00a0And there was great joy in that city. <strong>&#8212; Acts 8:5-8<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>27\u00a0And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candance queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, 28\u00a0Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. 29\u00a0Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. 30\u00a0And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? 31\u00a0And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. 32\u00a0The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: 33\u00a0In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth. 34\u00a0And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? 35\u00a0Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. 36\u00a0And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? 37\u00a0And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. 38\u00a0And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. 39\u00a0And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. 40\u00a0But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.<\/em> <strong>&#8212;- Acts 8:27-40<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b<strong>The Pastors and Teach<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u200b<\/strong>The office of the Pastor is the most prevalent type of ministry today. It was not so in days of the early church. Pastors are the leaders of the local congregation. The church in the days of the first century were identified differently than they are today. In those days the church was known by its location, not by denomination like it is today.
